7 dumbest things NDC politicians have said this year

If the Ghanaian political landscape proves anything, it’s that words do not matter. There have been unfortunate comments about our economy by President Mahama, Fiifi Kwetey , and Amaliba. Not to mention the Twitter jab by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hannah Tetteh to the OccupyFlagStaff demonstrators.
With that in mind, here’s a round up of the 7 most controversial comments — some inflammatory, some just plain crazy — made by NDC politicians in the first half of 2014:

1. “The fundamentals of the economy were strong and the nation’s medium-term prospects were also bright.”

- President John Mahama, 2014 State of the Nation address.

2. “Do we know where they get the money from? Do we know what they do with it? These dwarfs, the black magic, is what has made the cedi lose value,”

- Anita Desooso (NDC National Women Organiser), Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, February 10.

3. “The cedi is rising, for me, basically because of the high rate of development that we are experiencing now. This high rate of development can be seen in private and public mansions coming up everywhere, and the fact that we have to import all these materials so as to be able to put up these buildings,”

- Abraham Amaliba (NDC legal team), Joy FM’s newsfile, February 1st.

4. “…the depreciation of the currency should actually be a blessing for countries that are looking at exporting but the reason why we are complaining and suffering is because our country is filled with imports,”

- Fiifi Kwetey (Then Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning)

5. “Occupy Flagstaff House Crowd. The numbers were ….. well never mind”,

- Hanna Tetteh (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Twitter update

6. “…mobile phones cannot be used if they are not charged. And what do we use in charging them? Electricity. All these are feeding into the same megawatts that we have. The number of mobile phones outstrips the number of people we have in this country.”

- Richard Quarshigah (NDC Propaganda Secretary), Eyewitness news, June 13

7. ” I will build a house with Daily Guides GHc250,000 and name it ‘Kwasia bi nti’”

- Mr Asiedu Nketia aka. General Mosquito (General Secretary of NDC)
