Born Jonathan W. K. Segbefia Junior , a native of Dansoman, J.Phinga Da
Gongman is aggressively tiling the soil of the underground music scene
in Ghana. Making appearances on most popular platforms and scheduled for
much more, his unique style has him braced to take the industry by
storm. With extreme excess of collaborations already under his belt. The
24 year visual arts graduate of Chemu Senior High School is also a
Graphic Designer enthusiast and completed several courses in that course
of study.
As the 7th born of 8 children predominantly raised by his
father, He was able to complete his education at Manhean Presby Primary
and Manhean TMA 1, both of Tema New Town respectively. He was destined
for a career in music as he was an avid lover, peaking his interest at a
tender age in life. Before he could understand the lyrics, he was
belting out the lyrics and developing an understanding for musical
arrangement. With Dad’s career path keeping the family on the move,
relocating multiple times forced him to master many of the local
languages as means of adjusting.
This has placed him on a pedestal as
one of those artists that can interchangeable switch between English,
Ga, Twi and Ewe when singing. As with most artists of today, his first
recording experience was with that of a cassette tape where he would
playback his lyrics, perpetuate his mastery of the craft.
This grew
abundantly during his time in high school as a mate will drum the desks
forming beats for him to sing along with. This was a daily ritual that
became part of him. He then graduated to a deeper love of music, taking
it more serious than his academic work. He was part of a group called EP
Unit which entertained students with their fresh lyrics during all
break times and Entertainment at school. AfterHigh School, he made the
conscious decision to pursue music full time. J.Phinga has struggled on
his ascend and emergence onto the music scene. The struggle continued as
he recounts having to walk from Ashaiman to Tema Community 2, just to
have the opportunity to be on radio. Countless auditions were in vain
including Mentor 5,Vodafone Icons mixed edition, King Of The Mic and MTN
Project Fame. Finally, it was Hitz Discovery that realised his talent
and he commendably was able to make it to the finals.
He has been on the
same All Stars with Stonebwoy and even featured on a song by Sakodies
Rap University boys Awal and Donzy. Internationally, he has collaborated
with Ms Staks from Alabama (America) and has voiced on lots of riddims
internationally. Phinga was featured on an Episode of Rythms as
previously aired on GTV and performed a couple of times at Reggae Nights
at Tawala. There's much more in store for J.Phinga's fans. Ghana, get
ready to embrace Da Gongman a triumphant lyricist with much to say.His
melodic dancehall style will feed your soul with good music as the only
food for the SOUL. SAYWA
