Award-winning child actress Maame Serwaa who turned 16 last Tuesday, August 19, celebrated her birthday at the Aphrodisiac Nite Club in Kumasi.
The celebration, although entertaining and grand, has generated lots of criticisms from a section of the Ghanaian public not because of the glamour and show of extravagance but the venue of the event for the actress born Clara Benson.
Notable among the concerned Ghanaians are Kumawood actors Fred Ohene Boadi popularly known as Bohyeba, Papa Kumasi and movie producer, Nana Wusu.
The three in separate interviews expressed their dissatisfaction about Maame Serwaa’s choice of a Night Club for the celebration of her birthday.
Bohyeba known for popular TV series “Abrabo Mu Nsem” disclosed to OMG!Ghana.com that the actress’ management was to be criticized for allowing the ‘minor’ to celebrate her birthday at the venue obviously known to be cut for persons over the age of 18.
“Maame Serwaa’s management and that of Aphro made a mistake by allowing the girl to celebrate her birthday at the night club. The girl is not 18 yet so she being a celebrity doesn’t warrant her going contrary to the laws of the nation. Even the president is not above the law how much more Maame Serwaa?” Bohyeba interrogated.
Comparing Maame Serwaa acting at night clubs and celebrating her birthday at Aphrodisiac Nite Club, the pastor cum actor stated:
“Acting is make-believe and what she did last Tuesday is different from that. Her management should have known better that she is underage. Lets forgive them (Maame Serwaa and Aphrodisiac Night Club) this time but the law should take its full course when it happens for the second time”
Kumawood actor Papa Kumasi, one of the many personalities who showed up at the party to support Maame Serwaa condemned her for choosing such a venue for her birthday celebration.
Speaking to Muphy Lee on Sunyani-based Storm FM, Papa Kumasi said;
“Being an actor doesn’t mean you can be at any place of your choice. I questioned why she was allowed to celebrate her 16th birthday at Aphrodisiac Night Club but I was given no reasonable answer. Last Tuesday was even the first time I went there.”
Movie producer Nana Wusu who also expressed his anger on the issue on Storm FM stated emphatically that it was wrong for Maame Serwaa to celebrate her birthday at Aphrodisiac Night Club.
“Let’s condemn what Maame Serwaa did because it is not good. How can a 16 year old celebrate her birthday at a night club?”
Nana Wusu however suggested that Maame Serwaa celebrated her birthday at the Children’s Home where most of her age mates who are less privileged are homed.
